Analysis of Polyurethane Insulation Performance
Polyurethane has attracted widespread attention and application due to its excellent thermal insulation properties. The following is a detailed analysis of polyurethane's thermal insulation performance:
1. Low Thermal Conductivity
Polyurethane insulation boards have a very low thermal conductivity, typically between 0.018 and 0.023 W/(m·K). This means that polyurethane effectively blocks heat transfer, providing excellent insulation. In comparison, other traditional insulation materials, such as extruded polystyrene (EPS), have a thermal conductivity of approximately 0.03 W/(m·K), making polyurethane insulation boards superior in insulation performance.
2. Waterproof and Moisture-Proof Properties
Polyurethane rigid foam has a closed-cell ratio of over 95%, making it a hydrophobic material. This property means that polyurethane does not absorb moisture, which increases its thermal conductivity, thus maintaining its stable insulation performance. Furthermore, polyurethane insulation boards are moisture-resistant, effectively preventing water seepage into walls.
3. Fire Resistance
Although polyurethane is an organic insulation material, the addition of flame retardants makes it flame-retardant and self-extinguishing. Polyurethane has a softening point exceeding 250°C, and decomposition occurs only at higher temperatures. During combustion, a carbonized layer forms on the surface of the polyurethane foam, which helps to insulate the underlying foam and effectively prevent the spread of fire. It also produces no harmful gases at high temperatures.
4. Moisture and Heat Resistance
Polyurethane insulation materials offer excellent moisture and heat resistance and are watertight, effectively blocking the penetration of water and water vapor, maintaining a stable and well-insulated wall. This is something currently difficult to achieve with other insulation materials.
5. Long-Term Stable Insulation
Polyurethane insulation boards have a stable, essentially closed-cell structure, which not only ensures excellent insulation performance but also offers advantages such as freeze-thaw resistance and sound absorption. Polyurethane insulation boards have a long service life and provide consistent insulation throughout their lifespan.
To sum up, polyurethane material performs excellently in terms of thermal insulation effect. It has multiple advantages such as low thermal conductivity, waterproof and moisture-proof, fireproof, and resistance to moisture and heat. It is an excellent thermal insulation material.
